Overview :

 

 
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Library was Established in 1399 A.H. at the former headquarters of the ministry in the city of Jeddah, and when the decision was made to build a new headquarters for the Ministry in Riyadh, under the guidance and support of the Minister of Foreign Affairs - may God protect him - a special design was made for the library, based on the latest international standards within the main building of the ministry, a full four floors were devoted to the library in order to meet the needs of the library and transform the scientific concept of a specialized library into reality. in 1405, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs moved to the new headquarters building in Riyadh and the library moved to the building allotted, where it began functioning and providing various services in all the fields related to diplomatic work for the employees of the ministry and at the diplomatic missions abroad and other beneficiaries. The library has been under the supervision of the Institute for Diplomatic Studies, and after the transfer of the Institute for Diplomatic Studies to the new headquarters in Riyadh outside the ministry, new directives were issued stating that the library as well as other departments will be under the supervision of the Information and Studies Center in the ministry, where the Library has the full support and constant attention of His Highness Ambassador Prince / Mohammed bin Saud bin Khaled, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Information and Technology Affairs, the General Manager of the center, since that time until the present day.

To be distinctive and typical library to provide all sources of information in different forms and to provide the best library services to the employees of the ministry, as well as seeking access to the highest levels of expertise and performance of the library and its staff, in order to achieve distinctive level sought by the ministry.

To raise the level of culture and knowledge of the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and to meet their needs by providing information sources and forms of various kinds, in all fields relevant to the work of the ministry, and provide easy access to it, through the use of the latest information technology systems.

Officials of the Library are seeking to achieve the desired objectives of the establishment, including:

 

 
1- Raise and dissemination of culture & knowledge of the ministry staff.
2- Provide books and references in all the fields related to diplomatic work.
3- Provide  the ministry's staff with the latest sources of information, to assist them in preparing reports and studies to carry out their careers.
4- Organize library materials, using modern techniques, which facilitate the use of these materials quickly and without any difficulties.
5- Provide the best service to readers and researchers, by providing the best information available means.
6- Cooperate with Local & international libraries and study and information centers in order to exchange information and experiences.
7- Using the latest information technology systems for automating the library's various holdings, to provide the best services to its visitors.
8- Provide the best reference services to library visitors.
9- Activate the cooperation between the ministry's library and other libraries and information centers at home and abroad, to diversify holdings and publications to develop the library.
