He joined Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Diplomatic Attaché in 1384H (1965).
Assigned to work at the Saudi Embassy in Washington in 1968, where he progressed on the work in the embassy until he was assigned to the post of Charge-de-Affairs for some time.He was appointed in 1967 as the Director of Media Affairs at the headquarters; then in charge of international affairs in 1398 H (1978), and the assistant Manager, Office of the Minister in 1405H. (1984). He was later appointed Head, Western Affairs, MOFA, in 1407H (1987). On that same date, a decree issued by the Council of Ministers appointing Dr. Madani as Ambassador on the 15Th grade.
During the period 1398H to 1413H (1978-1993), he participated in several international conferences (United Nations, Arab League, Organization of the Islamic Conference and the Gulf Cooperation Council).
He was the head of the Kingdom's delegation participating in the meetings of Disarmament Committee and the Regional Security Commission as well as in the deliberations of the steering committee established by the multilateral negotiations concerning the peace process in the Middle East.He participated in the academic and intellectual systems organized by the Institute of Diplomatic Studies, MOFA.He contributed to the publications issued by the Institute of Diplomatic Studies as well as in the local press.He was appointed in 1414H (1993) as a member of the Consultative (Shoura) Council in its first round of sessions.He headed the Foreign Affairs Committee and a member of the Security Committee at the Shoura Council in the first year of the Council’s work. He was also a member of Foreign Affairs Committee in the subsequent years.
A Royal Decree appointed him as a member of Shoura Council for the second time in 1418H (1997).
He was appointed by a Royal decree as Assistant Minster of Foreign Affairs in 1418H (1997).
